THE
DRESSAGE METHOD
Instructing
Instructors balance three roles: hosting, commanding, and teaching. Hosting includes both the actions that facilitate lessons (writing lesson plans, sending reminder pings...) as well as the social-emotional job of maintaining an engaged and encouraging lesson environment. Commanding refers to an instructor's confidence, clarity, consistency, and creativity with their outloud commands of moves. Teaching involves the strategies an instructor uses to help their students leave the lesson with a deeper understanding of dressage theory and stronger skills in performing moves.
All Bronze Butterflies instructors must first complete our Instructor-in-Training (IIT) program. During the IIT program, IITs complete weekly tasks of their choice that improve their understanding and abilities, such as shadowing a full instructor, writing a lesson plan, creating a dressage drill/game, writing a personal library of dressage moves, or a task of their choice. Additionally, they attend weekly instructing practices where they apply their ideas and improve their skills & confidence.
We have so much to share about instructing, from specific teaching techniques to skills for how to command while leading the line. Check back or grab the @Ping Dictionary Updates role in our open server to be notified of updates to this page of the SDM!
